List of Electron Configurations of Elements

Fluroine Atom

Electron configuration of a fluorine atom.

This list of electron configurations of elements contains all the elements in increasing order of atomic number.

To save room, the configurations are in noble gas shorthand. This means part of the electron configuration has been replaced with the element symbol of the noble gas symbol. Look up the electronic configuration of that noble gas and include that value before the rest of the configuration. This table is available to download as a PDF to use as a study sheet.

List of Elements PDF – Element Names

Have you ever needed a list of the chemical elements? I was surprised how often I have needed to print this list myself. I used this list as a checklist when I made the periodic table element cells and when I made the Element Word Search Puzzle.  I’ve used it so often, I thought I’d share my list of elements in PDF form.

Alphabetical List of ElementsDownload the List of Elements PDF and print out your own copy. The list fits on a single sheet of paper and arranged alphabetically in three columns. Another alternative is to click the image above. It is a PNG image of the contents of the PDF file.

I hope it becomes as useful to you as it is to me.

Element List in German

Farbperiodensystemsder ElementeHave you ever wondered if the names of elements are the same in other languages? Different languages have different words for the same thing, why should the elements be any different?

This table is a list of the elements in English and German arranged by atomic number.

If you’d like to see a periodic table in German, check out this Periodic Table, or Periodensystems der Elemente in German.

The Element Song Lyrics

The Element Song lists the chemical elements of the periodic table. Tom Lehrer set the names of the elements to the tune of  “I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General” from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera buffa “The Pirates of Penzance.”

Learning the lyrics is a fun way to memorize the elements:

There’s antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium
And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium
And gold, protactinium and indium and gallium
And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.

There’s yttrium, ytterbium, actinium, rubidium
And boron, gadolinium, niobium, iridium
And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium,
And bismuth, bromine, lithium, beryllium and barium.

There’s holmium and helium and hafnium and erbium
And phosphorus and francium and fluorine and terbium
And manganese and mercury, molybdenum, magnesium,
Dysprosium and scandium and cerium and cesium
And lead, praseodymium, and platinum, plutonium,
Palladium, promethium, potassium, polonium, and
Tantalum, technetium, titanium, tellurium,
And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium.

There’s sulfur, californium and fermium, berkelium
And also mendelevium, einsteinium and nobelium
And argon, krypton, neon, radon, xenon, zinc and rhodium
And chlorine, carbon, cobalt, copper,
Tungsten, tin and sodium.

These are the only ones of which the news has come to Harvard,
And there may be many others, but they haven’t been discovered.
