Word search puzzles are a fun method to introduce glossary terms to students. This 2D and 3D shapes word search consists of 18 different shapes.

2D and 3D Shapes Word Search

These shapes can be found vertically, horizontally, and diagonally as well as forwards and backward. The word search is optimized to fit on a standard 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper, but scales nicely to the A4 paper size. To make printing easier, a PDF is available for download.

2D and 3D Shapes Word Search Glossary List

Circle – 2D Shape where the edges are all the same distance from a center point.

Cone – Special type of pyramid where the base is a circle.

Cube – 3D shape with all faces are composed of squares.

Cylinder – Special type of prism where the base shape is a circle.

Ellipse – An ellipse is a 2D shape where the path traced when the sum of the distances between two fixed points is a constant.

Pentagon – 2D shape with five sides of equal length.

Hexagon – 2D shape with six sides of equal length.

Octagon – 2D shape with eight sides of equal length.

Parallelogram – Closed 2D figure formed by four sides and the opposite sides are parallel to each other.

Polygon – General name of a 2D closed shape

Prism – 3D shape consisting of a stack of identical base shapes stacked on top of each other.

Pyramid – 3D shape consisting of a polygon base and triangular faces meeting at a common point above the base.

Rectangle – Special parallelogram where the interior angles are all right angles.

Rhombus – Special parallelogram with equal sides and opposite angles are equal to each other.

Sphere – 3D shape where each point of the surface is an equal distance from a center point.

Square – Special parallelogram with all sides the same length.

Trapezoid – Special parallelogram where two sides are parallel to each other.

Triangle – 2D enclosed shape consisting of three connected sides.
