How to Print a Protractor Accurately
A protractor needs to print at the correct scale to measure angles accurately.
- Open the PDF file.
- Choose Print.
- Select Actual Size or set the scale to 100%.
- Turn off Fit to Page, Shrink to Fit, or other automatic scaling options.
- Print the protractor and cut it out.
For a reusable transparent protractor, print the transparent PNG on transparency film that is compatible with your printer.
Tip: After printing, measure the ruler along the bottom. If it measures exactly six inches, the protractor printed at the correct scale.
How to Use a Protractor
Place the center mark of the protractor over the vertex of the angle. Align the protractor’s baseline with one side of the angle. Starting from 0° on that side, follow the correct scale and read the number where the other side of the angle crosses the protractor.
The 180° protractor is suitable for most geometry problems. Use the 360° protractor when measuring angles around a full circle or angles greater than 180°.
